I began making jewellery over twelve years ago. I had just moved to Brussels with my husband-to-be, giving up my career as a physiotherapist in the U.K. I had time on my hands …
A friend persuaded me to go with her on a jewellery-making course. Little did I know what would happen. Soon I was hooked and couldn't go past a bead shop without investigating. I quickly amassed a huge collection of wonderful beads which I started to turn into necklaces, earrings and other items of jewellery. People began to admire my work and I started to get commissions and requests to 'do' jewellery parties. Over the years, my hobby has grown into a business. I found new markets as I moved from Belgium to the Netherlands and, later, to Guernsey. I think I’m really lucky to be able to work at something so creative and enjoyable.
My favourite beads are Venetian glass. Each one is handmade and unique. The only downside is that I never quite know what beads I’m going to be able to get or when ! The beautiful, jewel-like colours and the gold and silver inside the beads make them miniature works of art. Some beads are large and certainly make a statement with any outfit. There are also tiny hearts and flowers, which have proved to be extremely popular.
After more than a decade abroad, I’ve recently returned with my family to settle in South Devon - where the beautiful colours of nature, the sea and the sky continue to provide inspiration for my work.
